Qld: Resurgent One Nation bad for tourism industry

A leading tourism lobby group says a resurgent One Nation could wreck hopes for stable
government in Queensland and harm the state's vital tourism industry.

Tourism Task Force chief executive CHRIS BROWN says Queensland voters should think
carefully before supporting PAULINE HANSON'S One Nation party on Saturday.

Mr BROWN says One Nation has taken on a wrecking agenda and are trying to wreak havoc.

He says they are also anti-trade.

Mr BROWN says tourism is one of the biggest export industries in the country and Queensland
dominates the Asian tourism market.

He says the tourism industry hopes Queenslanders seriously consider their moral and
economic responsibility to give their state a safe and secure government.

Newspaper opinion polls have One Nation on eight per cent support in Queensland --
well below the 23 per cent support it received in the 1998 state election when it secured
11 seats.

However, commentators believe One Nation's support will leap with Ms HANSON campaigning
this week and with its deliberate strategy of targeting sitting members with their preferences.
