NSW:Streets in Sydney closed, possible siege

SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - Two streets in Sydney's inner west have been closed as the suburb
is placed into police lockdown, possibly for a siege.

Church Street and Missenden Road in Camperdown were closed shortly after 5am (AEDT)
on Friday, a NSW Police spokeswoman told AAP.

Several ambulances and police cars are parked outside the Chinese consulate in the
inner-western suburb, the ABC reports.

Earlier, about 1.30am, shots were heard in the area in an apparent pub robbery attempt.

The ABC understands two young people are in hospital.

It says another juvenile may be holed up in the Chinese consulate.

The Chinese consulate runs between the two closed streets.

Police have warned residents of the area to stay indoors, and motorists to avoid Missenden
Road if possible.

Missenden Road forms a perimeter of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and part of the University
of Sydney.
