NSW: Farmers picket US embassy in Canberra

CANBERRA, Aug 1 AAP - Lamb producers have begun a picket of the US embassy in Canberra over
Washington's decision to impose trade barriers on Australian lamb imports.

About 20 farmers have set up barbecues and hoisted placards in a park opposite the
embassy's main gates.

NSW Farmers' Association president John Cobb said he would attempt to enter the embassy
this afternoon to take the issue up with the US ambassador.

"I think we have to keep the pressure on the Americans and our own government," Mr Cobb
told AAP.

"And if we do have to put up with something that stupid, it has to be of a much shorter
length than the three years they're suggesting."

The picket by farmers on a roster system was scheduled to last at least a month.
