WASHINGTON Eighteen months after two Washington state residentsdied from taking Sudafed capsules laced with cyanide, federalauthorities on Monday announced the arrest of a former insurancesalesman who they say planted the poisoned medicine to conceal ascheme to murder his wife for insurance money.
A 20-count indictment filed in Seattle charged Joseph EarlMeling, 31, with product tampering, mail fraud and perjury.Authorities contended the former Prudential Insurance Co. sales agentinserted sodium cyanide into Sudafed 12-hour capsules and returnedthe products to store shelves.
